Prospective Parents

Registration Information: We welcome you to come and visit us! Please call the school to arrange an appointment. You may register your child at any time since HKR has an open registration process.

Placement in morning or afternoon classes is on a first come/first serve basis and registration has no bearing on boy/girl mix.
Our student/teacher ratio is 4:1. Connecticut requires a 10:1 maximum ratio.
Our Tuesday/Thursday morning classes are for children who will be 3 years old before December 31st of the year they will begin preschool.
Our Monday/Wednesday/Friday and 5-day classes are for children who will be 4 years old before December 31st of the year they will begin preschool.
Our staff qualifications include educational degrees of masters, bachelors, and associate degrees in education, early childhood education, early childhood special education, as well as early childhood education certification and CDA. All HKR staff is involved in continuing education each year.
Tuition is due on or before the first of the month. Our payment schedule is June through March if paying in 10 installments, June 1st and November 1st if paying in 2 installments, or June 1st if paying in 1 installment. Please call for current tuition amounts.

General School-Year Information:

Each spring, registered students and their families are invited to an Open House where you will learn additional details about our programs and also allow your child to explore our school, play with playdough, paint a picture, go outside in the play yard, meet other families and, of course, our teaching staff.
Our school year begins the week after Labor Day and ends the week of Memorial Day. We are closed on legal holidays. We are closed for 2 weeks during the December holidays and follow the Stratford Public Schools calendar for winter and spring vacations.
Parent Orientation is held on the Tuesday evening after Labor Day. At this important meeting, we will review all our procedures and what to expect on the first few days of school.
The Thursday and Friday following Labor Day are Visiting Days at HKR. On these days, you and your child will visit for an hour to reaquaint yourselves with HKR before beginning regular classes the following week.
Teacher/parent conferences are held 3 times a year with an in-person conference in March and a phone conference in both November and May. These conferences will include discussions on your child's development, cognitive, social, and motor skills and their interests and strengths that we see here at school.
HKR hosts special programs for all classes, including demonstrations by Beardsley Zoo, Mystic Aquarium, and Milford Audubon. The cost of these programs is included in tuition.
Parents are always welcome guests at HKR! You may visit at any time, celebrate a birthday, or volunteer for our many parent participation days. Parents are also invited to join our HKR Parents Committee. This group plans out-of-school activities and parent nights.
Our parent bulletin boards in the front hall will guide you through what is going on daily at HKR, events in our area, and parent info. Information is sent by email on a daily basis as well.

Snack Time Information: Children bring their own snack daily. We ask that it be a nutritious snack and a drink of water, milk, or 100% juice.

HKR has a nut, peanut, and peanut butter free policy. Please read the ingredient labels on any items your child may bring to snack and make sure that there are no nuts on the list.
All staff is certified in First Aid, CPR, and emergency medication administration.
We ask that lunch boxes/bags be clearly labelled on the outside and that all reusable parts be labelled as well.
